Betton Hills Neighborhood Association

November 3, 2010

 

Tom Schulte called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.  Attendees included Tom Vickers, Andy Grayson, Dean Hansen, Sue Hansen, Donna Legare, Margie McInnes, Mary Kay Falconer, Mike Brezin and Melissa Jacoby. 

 

The October 6, 2010 minutes were approved.

Parks:  Dean Hansen advised that there is a large alligator in McCord Pond.  City officials have been notified.  Donna Legare installed a foam core backing and updated information in the kiosk.  She attended the Sustainability Fair at Lake Ella talked with the City Sustainability Coordinator about encouraging maintenance staff to weed and remove invasive plants when there is no need to mow.  Concerns were also raised about the large number of geese at Harriman Pond.

Newsletter: Mike Brezin was complimented for his work on the newsletter.  The Board discussed the possibility of paying someone in the future to compile the BHNA newsletter.  Donna Legare obtained a quote of $35 per page, with a minimum of $150.  The Board felt that amount was reasonable.  The Board agreed that Andy Grayson would discuss this project with his son, who will be graduating from college in December.

 

Welcoming Committee:  Dean Hansen will deliver welcoming packages to new residents during the last weekend in November.

 

CONA:  No report. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

BHNA was presented a certificate for its participation in 2009-2010 Partners for Excellence Program with Elizabeth Cobb Middle School.  BHNA also received a thank you letter from Colette V. Clarke, Leon High School French Teacher, for our $350 donation through the Partners’ Fund.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

The Board set the 2011 Arbor Day activities for Saturday, February 5 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

 

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 2.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:20 p.m.
