Betton Hills Neighborhood Association Minutes
April 1, 2010
In the absence of President Tom Schulte, Shawn Einarson
called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
Attendees included board members Margie McInnes, Mary Kay
Falconer, Hilda Gilchrist, Donna Legare, Sue Hansen, Dean Hansen, Mike Brezin,
Jim Whitaker, Melissa Jacoby, and residents Jim and Corrie Spalla and Efrem and
Merli Balthazar.
The March 4 minutes were amended to reflect that the
location of the tree to be planted to honor Vicki Schwartz’s son had not been
determined at the March meeting. The
minutes were then approved.
New Business:
Trescott Drive resident Jim Spalla advised the board that he and 11
other residents received an unsigned notice from the city informing them that
their house numbers would be changed in May.
The numbers would be switched to conform to the odd/even numbering
system on Trescott Drive to facilitate location in emergencies. The current numbers have been in effect for
at least 30 years. Mr. Spalla and Dr.
Balthazar expressed concern about the expense, effort and confusion expected to
result from changing their addresses.
They were also concerned about the manner of notification and tone of
the notice. After discussion, the Board
agreed to send a letter to Mayor Marks and express concern about the required
change and determine if it could be rescinded or delayed. In addition, the
Board will inquire if there are other Betton Hills addresses that might be
similarly affected in the future. Mr. Spalla agreed to draft a letter and
forward it to BHNA President Tom Schulte for concurrence and signature. Mary Kay Falconer will let Tom know to expect
the letter.
Margie McInnes presented the April Membership Report which
was approved:
Paid

Donna Legare will contact the partner schools to determine
the uses of this year’s Partner Funds.
Mike Brezin will contact Leon High School about the distribution of the
Mansfield Fund. Due to lack of
acknowledgement by previous recipients of the scholarships, the Board discussed
dropping the Mansfield Fund from next year’s funds, but made no decision.
Margie McInnes presented the April Treasurer’s Report which
was approved:

Balance as
of April 1 $8662.90

Neighborhood Preservation:
Donna Legare, Sue Hansen and Hilda Gilchrist wrote to the city and asked
for a meeting with the supervisor of the ground crew responsible for mowing in
McCord Park. The meeting is scheduled
for April 14.
Newsletter: The BHNA newsletter is nearly complete and will
be distributed in mid-April. The Board
agreed to name the upcoming social event the “Betton Spring Fest.” The
newsletter will include an article suggesting that teens looking for
neighborhood jobs post their requests on the Betton Facebook page. Due to work commitments, Shawn Einarson asked
the Board recruit for an editor or assistant editor for the newsletter.
Welcoming Committee:
Dean Hansen advised that there were 16 sales in the last six
months. He requested assistance in
distribution of welcome packages on April 10.
Shawn Einarson and Mary Kay Falconer will assist.
The Board discussed the upcoming Betton Spring Fest. Margie McInnes circulated a sign-up sheet to
make sure all tasks were covered. The
Board would like to include a garden tour prior to the start of Betton Spring
Fest. Sue Hansen will coordinate.
Donna Legare advised that she had spoken with Vicki Schwartz
and arranged for a granny greybeard tree to be planted at Kate Sullivan School
to honor Vicki’s son Geoffery.
There being no further business, the meet adjourned at 8:50
p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Melissa Jacoby, Secretary
