Peter
provided the contact information for our newest board member, newsletter editor
Shawn Einarson (2112 E. Randolph Circle; Einarson@embarqmail.com).
We
agreed to hold our annual “Spring Fling” neighborhood social event on April 29th
between 3 and 5 PM. Margie McInnis was suggested as the coordinator, with
everyone agreeing to help. We agreed to include the traditional food and
activities, including pizza and soft drinks, games, crafts, and “goodie bags”
for the children, and activities rented from Party Line (e.g. “moonwalk” and/or
rock climbing, etc.)
The
next newsletter will be published prior to the Spring Fling. We discussed
several suggested topics.
Mary
Kay agreed to ask J.T. Ehrhardt if he could add a
counter to our website.
Melissa
reported that she attended CONA’s February 9th town hall meeting,
where neighborhood security and safety were the primary topic. There have been
increased crimes against property in the Lafayette Park and Old Town
neighborhoods. The deadline for “Neighborhood of the Year” nominations is March
26th. The annual banquet and awards ceremony is slated for May 11th.
CONA is soliciting board nominations.
Mary
Kay agreed to update our previous nomination materials for our entry for the
Neighborhood of the Year aware. We agreed that we should have a good chance,
especially because of our mobilizing the effort to save Tallahassee’s roses.
BHNA
and the ad hoc committee that organized the outstandingly successful drive to
save Tallahassee’s roses will be recognized by the City on March 11th.
We
agreed to split the proceeds in the $958 in the Partners in Excellence fund
between Kate Sullivan, Cobb and Leon. We also agreed to donate $100 to Leon
High’s Project Graduation out of the general fund. Bonnie Gaughan
Bailey will coordinate distributing the proceeds. Donna reported that the
donation to Cobb Middle School will be used to purchase equipment for the
science department. Mike will send information on the Mansfield scholarship
fund to Bonnie.
Andy
reported that Joe Cain of the Waverly Neighborhood Association is continuing to
organize opposition to installing a cell phone tower, disguised as a cross at a
church on Thomasville that is across the street from Waverly’s entrance. The
latest news is that the opposition is attempting have the cell tower moved to
Tallahassee Nurseries.
Andy
announced that the Killearn Homeowners Association is
organizing an effort to strengthen the sign ordinance to further restrict and
regulate billboards. Since Anne Longman has provided leadership for this issue
in the past, Andy agreed to contact her to see if she might assist with the
effort.
Construction
on Mitchell Avenue is on schedule and does not appear to be a major disruption
to access to Winthrop Park.
BHNA
has been asked to help promote a new activity, “Story in the Park”, in April in
the new park located behind Ashford Club. Story teller Kate Teluga
is expected to provide the entertainment. We agree that BHNA will announce the
event in the newsletter and encourage participation. Dean Hansen is involved in
the event’s organization, and Shawn agreed to help.
Peter
agreed to contact Waste Pro about the problem with litter that is left behind
as a result of garbage and recycling collection.
There
being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
Respectfully
submitted,
Peter
Butzin, Secretary
