Minutes
of the April 3, 2008 meeting were approved as modified to include attendance by
Kathy Moulton.
The
treasurer’s report will be presented at the June meeting.
Membership
report: Tom Vickers reported receipt of
dues from 4 additional members since the April report. There are currently 362 paid members. Dues and donations are: Bellamy $1,631.50, Partners $961.50,
Mansfield $621.50, dues and undesignated donations $3,770. Total received: $6974.50.
Partner’s
Fund: Donna Legare reported that she had
been in contact with the choral director at Cobb. The Partner’s Fund donation of $346.50 will
be used to purchase new microphones for use by the chorus and others in the
school. The donation was much appreciated.
Mansfield
Fund: Mike Brezin reported that he had
been in contact with Judy Crews, the guidance counselor at Leon who is our
contact for the Mansfield Fund. Judy
said she would contact the journalism sponsor at Leon and they would identify
the fund winners. After that, Judy will
get back in touch with Mike so we can write the checks and award letter.
Spring
Fling Wrap-Up: Attendees were pleased
with the Spring Fling gathering. Thanks
are owed to Margie McInnes for organizing the event and others who shared the
work. It is believed that the threat of
rain contributed to the lower than expected attendance. Mike Brezin will include the list in the
next newsletter. Margie plans to write thank
you letters to the donors. BHNA wishes to recognize the local merchants who

In
lieu of the annual dinner, CONA will host a reception on May 12 at 6:00 p.m. at
the R.A. Gray building. There is no cost
for the reception. Winners of the
Neighborhood of the Year will be announced at the reception. Several BHNA board members plan to
attend. Melissa Jacoby will attend the
city-sponsored Florida Neighborhoods Conference on June 26 -28.
Board
members discussed whether BHNA membership should be expanded to residents of
the apartments at the Ashford Club. The attendees agreed to accept membership
from residents of individual apartments who express an interest in joining, but
were not in favor of automatic inclusion of the entire 102 unit complex.
Board
members discussed the city’s proposed Pet Waste Ordinance. Kathy Moulton attended the public hearing and
spoke, as an individual, in favor of the ordinance. After considerable discussion and lack of
consensus, the board members agreed not to take a position on the
proposed ordinance. Donna Legare will
write an educational article for the BHNA newsletter to include ways to
mitigate pet waste.
Dean
Hansen advocated the purchase of additional T-shirts for use as rewards at BHNA
events. He will obtain estimates for
decision at the next meeting.
Tom
Vickers will contact those listed as board members who have not been active to
determine their continued interest in serving on the BHNA board.
There
being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:30.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Melissa
Jacoby, Acting Secretary
