Betton Hills Neighborhood Association Minutes

October 4, 2007

Mary Kay Falconer called the meeting to order at 7:30.

Attendees were:  Mary Kay Falconer, Melissa Jacoby (new member), Tom Vickers, Tom Schulte, Mike Brezin, Tami Frankland(new member), Margie McInnes, Dean Hansen, Elizabeth Jensen, and Bonnie Gaughan-Bailey.

Mary K passed around a letter of thanks to the BHNA from Tom and Pat Whitaker for our letter of support for the continuation of bus service along Woodgate Way (route #16).  (The handwritten letter is included with the original copy of the minutes.)

Mary K asked for any comments regarding last month’s meeting minutes.  There being none, Tom Vickers moved for approval.  The motion was approved unanimously.

Tom then gave a membership report.  He described the BHNA’s boundaries which, like Pakistan, are subject to disputes with our northern neighbors.  For the next year’s membership renewal, we decided to send notices to people along Noble Drive and secondary close by streets, but not do a follow-up notice for those that don’t join/renew following the first mailing.  Tom presented a map that shows this extension from the Red Cross map of Betton Hills.

Elizabeth, Margie, and Dean reported that the Welcoming Committee is at rest temporarily as not many houses are selling currently.

Tom Shulte reported that the property on Lee Avenue will probably go to two lots, not the 4-5 originally proposed.  The neighbors are OK with the two lot option.

We discussed the annual meeting.  Assignments:

  • Andy Fink – signs
  • Bonnie – beantoss and organize other games
  • Elizabeth – crafts and face painting for small children
  • Dean – drinks and ice cream
  • Mary Kay – cups, glasses, and spoons

Mary Kay suggested we give two gifts to neighbors who had helped with the BHNA in the last year:  JT Ehrhardt for his website work and Tonya Ehrhardt for her focus on the backyard habitat concept, including writing an article for the newsletter. Elizabeth Jensen was also recognized for her contributions to the BHNA this past year.  $50 total was proposed for recognizing these board members.  Margie moved approval and Tom Shulte seconded; the motion was approved unanimously.

Mary K then indicated that it was becoming problematic to find a BHNA president.  She recommended that we go with a quarterly chairperson.  This person would set the agenda for the monthly meetings, run them, and write the column for the quarterly newsletter.  Mary Kay would continue to be the BHNA contact for the city and county governments.  This notion was agreeable to the board.  Mary Kay stated she would serve for the fall quarter.  Others volunteering to serve in the esteemed post were:  Tom Shulte and Dean Hansen.  They were heartily endorsed by the board.  Bonnie stated that she would be our CONA representative for the year.

Finally, Mary Kay reported that the yard sale at Armistead and Thomasville was occurring again.  Melissa Jacoby said she would look into the situation.

That being the last order of the meeting, the board of this august organization called it a night.

Respectfully submitted,

Mike Brezin
