Minutes of BHNA Board Meeting

October 5, 2006

 

Chairman Philip Froemke called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

 

Attendees included: Tom Vickers, Mike Brezin, Andy Grayson, Bonnie Gaughan-Baily, Charles Pattison, Elizabeth Markovich, Elizabeth Jensen, Dean Hansen, Donna Legare, Philip Fromke and Anne Longman

 

The minutes of the September 7th meeting were approved as distributed.

 

Donna Legare submitted the treasurer’s report as follows:

 

Balance as of October 5, 2006:  2529.65

 

Checks written since last report:

Plans for ice cream social and Annual Meeting, scheduled for October 22nd from 2 to 4 PM were discussed. Set up will begin at 1:30. The Leon Steel Drum Band will play for the first hour.  A representative of Leon County will be present to discuss the 1/2 cent initiative for indigent health care. A booth will also be set up to display the plans for the proposed park to join Winthrop and McCord parks.  Board members and officers will be elected. The group agreed that the event should be publicized in future years in the NE Chronicle..

 

The fall newsletter has been distributed. This is the annual edition that is sent to all residences to promote membership.

 

Donna Legare went to “Partner’s in Excellence Breakfast” for the local schools. BHNA contributes to this program. Donna encourages more residents to volunteer tutoring and mentoring children in the local schools.

 

In partnership with the County, BHNA will host a hazardous waste roundup on Nov 4th at the Goodwill location at the corner of Thomasville and Betton Roads. 

 

Charles Pattison discussed a meeting of the Council of Neighborhood Associations he recently attended. CONA is promoting increased neighborhood involvement in zoning and land use changes with the City Commission.

 

Elizabeth Jensen is heading up the welcome committee. She will propose a budget. Discussion focused on the purchase of bags and various items to give newcomers. Local businesses will also be asked to donate items for the welcome bags. She indicated that the committee would not be able to reach many newcomers who have moved to our neighborhood during the time that the committee has been inactive. The group discussed how best to obtain the names and addresses of new residents.

 

Some work has started on the Park-trail, but some residents are expressing opposition.
